My Projects

In case you missed my about page, I am a writer. Mostly a writer of traditional fantasy at the moment, though I’m playing around with an urban fantasy right now, and have the beginnings of what I hope will become a contemporary fantasy waiting in line for attention. So I am something of a scatterbrained, neurotic writer, as I never run out of material, just time and common sense.

And when I’m a published writer and de facto Empress of the World (and yes, this is precisely what that will look like)– well, then I guess I’ll call myself a novelist. Please excuse me while I chew my nails to ragged little slivers for a minute here.

Project 1 is called Sword, and it’s currently on sub, which accounts for a great deal of the neurotic you may run into when running into me. Sword is a coming-of-age high fantasy, the first of three (I hope), and could probably be called medieval if the world weren’t wholly fictional. I had a blast researching different kinds of armor and weaponry, and less of a blast researching Irish Gaelic, which gives me a headache. It’s got blood, humor, tragedy, violence, sex, politics, betrayal, magic, and –the carrying themes–  loyalty and love. Kyali Corwynall

I was interviewed by the fabulous Realm Lovejoy, who came up with a drawing of Sword’s main character, Kyali, that pretty much blew me away it was so close to the picture in my head. Here it is.

Intense, no? (God, I love this drawing.)

Project 2 is called Song, and it’s the sequel to Sword. I know that’s a no-no, but if you’ve ever had a story kicking your frontal lobe trying to get out, you know why I did it. Plus, I was in the midst of the Great Agent Quest at the time (happily resolved now), and man, is a distraction important while you’re waiting to get rejected! Song has all of the same stuff Sword can lay claim to, plus more blood.

Project 3 is called Crown, the third in this trilogy, and it’s an impatient outline at the moment: I am trying to be sensible and not write that one until Sword sells. This has, thus far, been one hell of an exercise in self discipline, because I love these characters, and Crown is going to be SO much fun to write; I can’t wait.

I mean, I can wait, of course: I just don’t want to.

Project 4 is my urban fantasy, currently without a title I’m not mortified by: it’s set in our world, just with some very minor changes, you know, like parallel worlds and portals and stuff. I suppose you could say it’s got faeries in it, if you just think of faeries as dark, bloodthirsty monsters with anger management issues, problems handling electrical appliances, and wide streaks of sarcasm. This one has made it through a few Teaser Tuesdays here, so if you want to see what I’m talking about, take a look!

My other projects aren’t far enough along to be anything but possibilities at the moment –I have to get at least 15K in before I feel comfortable giving them a folder of their very own– but I’ll update this as that changes.

And it will change. Oh yes, it will change.
